3000 Mile Service?

Hello!

New here and I thought this would be a good opportunity to sign up and make a post and begin to see how this community works.

I'm a new 2010 Mini Cooper S owner as of march and I just turned over 3k miles. I had taken the little guy in to the shop a few months back to get the wheels switched out and to replace a bad actuator. I was a little displeased to have to take the car back in a second time to get it fixed but that's a different story.

When I spoke to the guy running the service center he was telling me a few things that the display won't tell you about, that were good ideas to get checked on your own initiative to make sure the car continues to run well.

He said I should bring it in around 3k miles to get something done and I can't remember what it was. I ran a quick search online and didn't find anything on the top of the list. I've needed to make an account here and post and felt that this was a good opportunity to do so.

Does anyone know what should be checked out at 3k miles? I think the oil change/tire rotation was around 7-8k miles and wasn't sure if it was something to do with the turbo?

Would love some feedback. Sorry for not knowing when I feel like I should!

Thanks!

Hey, ASmith! Congrats on you new MINI, and welcome to HMMS.org!

I have a 2005, so I don't know what a 2010 needs at 3000 miles. My guess would be an oil change. Back in the day, you would change the oil in new cars after the break-in period.

There are several regulars on the website that have the new generation MINI. They may be able to answer your question. I wouldn't hesitate calling the dealer and asking them what they recommended.

Welcome, "A"!  I do have the new Gen, and I vote for an oil change, too, on the theory that anything that eliminates metal particles is a good thing.  Your counter probably doesn't call for it, but it's cheap insurance, especially if you do your own.  I can't think of anything else that's required or computer-prompted.  You might find a rattle or such that can be done at the same time if you have the dealer do the maintenance.

Hope we see you at the next meeting, and the drive!

Howdy, ASmith, and welcome to the website!

I, too, have an R56 (2008), and also would vote for an oil change. Nothing else comes to mind (but that may not be saying much!).

I hope you can make the next HMMS meeting… and of course, tell us more about your new MINI!

So I went ahead and called (I really am hesitant to call a dealership, not knowing what I'm talking about because it just seems like an easy ticket for someone to do a rush job thinking you don't know about your car etc) and it must have been bad hearing on my part because there was nothing that the technician (same guy) could come up with. Better safe than sorry though and I'll be waiting another 4k miles before I add some oil.

I apologize for a useless thread. Nice to have an account here now though and know I can turn to you guys for support.

Thanks!

I don't think you need to be nearly so concerned with calling MINI dealers.  Not that they're all sainted establishments, of course, but service is free, right along with warranty work.  When you walk in your SA (Service Advisor) will insert your key into a reader and IT will tell you what you need.  Might be an oil change, brakes, or whatever.  You won't pay for anything except a state inspection, and even THAT won't be due for 2 years.  You're pretty much home free for a good long while.

Leaves you more money to MOTOR!

(And there's no such thing as a "useless thread."  If you need an answer, just ask!)
