Ready to help your British car celebrate the new Colony? This year, the annual 4th of July Parade will be celebrated on the…3rd! Doug and Iris Beatty have sort of adopted this Bellaire event, and afterwards will host a good ol’ fashioned picnic lunch at their nearby home. More details:
This year’s theme is “You’re a Grand Ole Flag!”.
The parade will start in the parking lot at the corner of Mapleridge and Bellaire Boulevard. Parade participants will need to line up at the Bellaire Triangle Shopping Center between 8:30 am and 9:30 am. You can decorate your MINI in the parking lot as we wait for the parade to start. We will be given a sequence number for our position in the parade, so just look for CHIQUI and line up with her. We will have access to a restroom at Iris’ music studio Beatty Music Works before the parade begins.
The parade will begin at 9:30 am. Parade participants will exit the Bellaire Triangle Shopping Center onto Bellaire Boulevard heading east and then turn right on South Rice Avenue. The parade will pass Bellaire City Hall and Town Square and turn right onto Jessamine. The parade route ends as you pass the Little League Baseball field, and is approximately half a mile in length – bring enough hard candy to distribute (throw) to the parade watchers. Also be thinking of a unique way to decorate your MINI with “grand ole flags!
After the parade we invite you to our home which is about a half a mile from the parade route (see address below). We will have a lunch of hot dogs, chips, corn, kid lemonade and adult lemonade, plus watermelon and maybe even some apple pie as well. If you are coming to lunch, please indicate in a reply to this thread how many are coming in your MINI. If you want to bring something for the lunch, include in your response what you’re bringing.
Hope to see you for the celebration!

Iris and Doug,
Miss Mini and 3 humans and one small dog will be attending.
Will bring anything you want me to bring – just name it!
Thanks for hosting this event.
Looking forward to the parade!
Judith
Judith,
Looking forward to seeing your entourage and Miss Mini on Saturday. How about bringing a medium sized watermelon – we’ll put it on ice and carve it after lunch.
Iris and Doug
According to the City of Bellaire, the parade is still on for Saturday. It would only be cancelled in case of lightning or a torrential downpour. We are parade sequence number 51 and will be lining up on the Bissonnet (south) side of the parking lot. Plan to arrive between 8:15 AM and 9:15 AM, leaving time to decorate your MINI. Bring some candy if you want to throw it to the kids along the parade route. The Parade starts at 9:30 AM. We will have access Iris’ Beatty Music Works studio (complete with a restroom) before departing.
Keep your fingers crossed and hope the rain stops by then to make the parade much more fun, but the party at our home afterwards will be held rain or shine! As of today, we have confirmed 6 MINIs and 18 people (5 and 17 if it rains) who are coming and they have volunteered to bring watermelon, potato salad, drinks, and cake/cookies. We will provide hot dogs, chips, corn on the cob, and lemonade (adult version available) and perhaps some pie.
The party will be held at 5220 Braeburn Drive, about one half a mile from the end of the parade route. If you have any trouble with directions, call my mobile 713-702-9778 (Doug). If we don’t see you Saturday, Happy Fourth of July!!!
Any Updates ? The weather looks very “chancy”?
Suggestions for decorating in wet conditions?
I am going to try and be there rain or shine.
As far as we know, they have not cancelled the parade, but will wait until the morning to decide.
Decorations advice – flags attached to any part of your MINI you can imagine, mylar decorations (no paper due to rain possibility), or stick-on window decorations.
It has stopped raining here for the moment – who knows about tomorrow?
Thank you for putting this together. My daughter and I enjoyed the drive. I’m glad Momentum could supply me with a loaner MINI for the parade while mine is in the shop and could also give us some stuff to toss out to the demanding crowd!
Sorry we couldn’t swing by afterwards, we have a full day planned.
Here are the photos I took from the Parade..
