Call to Order and Club Stuff
Members of the Houston MINI Motoring Society had a great turnout at La Fiesta Restaurant. Approximately 25 members and guests attended. VP Jeff (Scooper) called the meeting to order at about 10:45, noting that President Deb (daffodildeb) was in Florida relocating her parents. He introduced Treasurer Juha (sikamini), John (JCScooper) unofficially serving as Secretary, and welcomed new Members and guests. Andrea (minisasqch) introduced her husband Robert Holmes and, later, Rick Roberts arrived, having adopted a 2007 Laser Blue/White MCS about 24 hrs earlier. Jeff took pictures of these Miniacs with their MINIs, for the club website.
Treasurer Juha (sikamini) reported on the Club’s finances, with current checking account balance of $808.00 as of the beginning of June. Jeff noted we will have $119 expenditure this month for the annual cost of the website hosting.
Juha noted the one outstanding membership card was sent out by mail, gave the status of polo shirt orders and deliveries; Jeff mentioned club hats, spotter cards, stickers. If interested in a club polo shirt, members should contact Juha to get on the list for the next order.
Show and Tell, Troubleshooting
Jeff showed his new 2010 MINIs in The Mountains official t-shirt; Bob (RJSMini) mentioned Ellen’s new tires and spare, and Crickette’s new floor mats; John mentioned his new red stainless steel brake lines to be installed later in the weekend; Doug and Iris (bochi2002) noted Doug’s successful $100,000 valve job (great news!); Andrea mentioned the problems with minisasqch’s melting and leaking rust inhibitor (cosmoline); Judith sought advice on touching up the gouge in her MINI’s finish, and also asked for details of the Bellaire 4th of July Parade, which will be posted soon when they are available.
HAPPENINGS
HMMS Report
Jeff went through the list of recent events, including the successful club picnic meeting at Brazos Bend State Park; no-one attended the Wheels and Keels Show; mentioned the Annual Business Meeting at the Black Labrador Pub; no-one participated in the BMWCCA DE at Texas World Speedway; Jeff and John volunteered at the BMWCCA Car Control School, which was a success. Andrea indicated she would like to attend the next one. That will probably be in 2011, but there may be a Porsche CA event scheduled. We’ll keep you posted; Jeff, John and Karl (smilie) participated in the BMWCCA autocross, with Jeff getting into the trophy points in Class D.
MINFunDrives
MINIPlay’s upcoming events were reviewed as listed on the agenda. Sylvia indicated they were planning to attend the Drive-In event in the evening. Jeff noted that the Motoring through the Hills, Texas Hill Country was a fun event last year.
MCOW Report
John noted that there was no MCOW meeting in May, and that the June meeting is scheduled for June 16th at the Pit Master BBQ on Sawdust Rd adjacent to The Woodlands.
Upcoming Events
Doug gave additional information on the BMWCCA Concours in Old Town Spring for tomorrow.
Final BMWCCA AX for this “semester” is June 27th at the Houston Police Academy.
Jeff noted MINIs in the Mountains. He is planning a 3 day drive to get there, also upcoming MINIs Take The States, and Merry MINIs on The Mountain, Arkansas.
John mentioned being contacted by the Coordinator regarding a possible request for an emergency Adopt-A-Beach cleanup if the oil spill comes this way. This would be voluntary, requested by the Texas General Land Office, and would most likely be to pick up tar balls (along with any of our usual trash). If we are asked, we will post the first convenient weekend day and a time, and those who are able to go, can join in. It will probably be a Saturday or Sunday from 9:00 AM to noon, and we can plan a lunch after to make it more enjoyable.
The Black Labrador Pub, was agreed to as the location for our July monthly meeting. Due to the 4th of July weekend being the first weekend of the month, our meeting will be the following weekend, on Saturday, July 10th.
Initially when asked, Andrea agreed to be Secretary although she might not be able to attend all meetings, and so would need to have a backup. Later, Sylvia agreed to be Secretary without reservations.
Other Business
Under this item, John circulated the printed website listing for the free boat tour (http://portofhouston.com/samhou) offered by the Port of Houston. These tours are held twice a day on most days (see website) and only require a reservation at least 24 hrs in advance. John will post details and a poll on the HMMS website, to get a sense of: if and when Members would like to do this. (This was something in planning back under the previous board, but was postponed and not pursued further.)
Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned following the OTHER BUSINESS discussion.
