Spring Adopt-a-Beach Clean up

April 20, 2013
9:00 AMto2:00 PM

Saturday April 20th is the next state-wide beach cleanup. HMMS is the “beach guardian” for a 1/2 mile stretch of Galveston Island State Park. It is a very pretty beach and we always have fun strollling the beach, doing a light clean-up. We’ll meet at the beach at 9:00 am, clean the beach for a couple of hours, and then go somewhere nearby for lunch.

You don’t have to bring anything, except if you have a favorite pair of work gloves! The Texas General Land Office provides us with trash bags and latex gloves.

Galveston Island State Park is on FM 3005 (Seawall Blvd) about 9 miles west of 61st Street on Galveston Island.

Galveston Island State Park Beach Cleanup

January 26, 2013
9:30 AMto3:00 PM

Houston MINI Motoring Society is the Guardian of a 1/2 mile stretch of Galveston Island State Park beach, and three times a year we go out to make our beach spic and span. It’s time for our Winter clean-up. No, this is not hard labor! In fact, from our experience this stretch of beach stays pretty clean, except for after big storms. And, in my opinion, is the prettiest stretch of beach close to Galveston!

The plan is to meet at the park at 11:00 am, patrol the beach for an hour or so and then head out for a late lunch somewhere on the seawall or near the Strand. Have no fear – if it is too cold or wet, we’ll postpone the clean-up to another time. But we’ve had great weather for our January pickups the last two years!

If you like, you can join me in a caravan down to the park. We’ll meet at the Park n Ride lot on SW corner of Hwy 288 and Hwy 6. We’ll leave at 9:30 am and drive south down 288 through Angleton, Lake Jackson, Surfside and then along the beach to the park. We’ll cross the San Luis Pass toll bridge. The club will pay for the toll. I’ll pass through first and pay the toll for all of us.

Let us know if you are coming, and if you want to join the caravan, by commenting on this post.
