Clint Host, proprietor of Gashead Motorworks, will be there to tell us about his shop, and answer any car repair, maintenence or modding question you may have about your MINI. Gashhead is one of our club sponsors (he give us discounts!), and although he specializes in Miata race cars, he has work on several of our member’s cars. Clint has invited us to drive to tour his shop (near the intersection of I-10 West and BW8), so after the meeting we’ll caravan to his shop!

January Galveston Island State Park Beach Guardian Day

January 28, 2012
11:00 AMto4:00 PM

Houston MINI Motoring Society are the Guardians of a 1/2 mile stretch of Galveston Island State Park beach, and three times a year we go out to make our beach spic and span. No, this is not hard labor! In fact, from our experience this stretch of beach stays pretty clean, except for after big storms. And, in my opinion, is the prettiest stretch of beach close to Galveston!

The plan is to meet at the beach at 11:00 am, clean for a couple of hours, and then head out for a late lunch at Joe’s Crab Shack on the seawall. Have no fear – if it is too cold or wet, we’ll postpone the clean-up to another time. But we’ve had great weather for our January pickups the last two years!

If you like we can caravan from the park-n-ride at the intersection of Hwy 288 and 6, drive through Angleton, Lake Jackson and Freeport, cross the San Luis Pass bridge (HMMS pays for bridge fee) and drive along the beach road to the park. Caravaners meet at the park-n-ride at 9:30 am. It takes 1-1/2 hours to drive from here to the beach.

You don’t have to bring anything, except if you have a favorite pair of work gloves! The Texas General Land Office provides us with trash bags and latex gloves. HMMS will bring water and soft drinks.

Galveston Island State Park is on FM 3005 (Seawall Blvd) about 9 miles west of 61st Street on Galveston Island.

Let us know if you are coming, and if you want to join the caravan, by commenting on this post.

Spaghetti Dinner at RMH

As I mentioned in the November club meeting post, Deborah King has arranged for us to serve a spaghetti dinner for the residents and Ronald McDonald house on the evening of November 5th. She has also arranged for Ma Maison to donate and cater food for the dinner. So, here are the rest of the details…

Ma Maison will be providing 200+ meatballs, sauce, Caesar salad & dressing and dessert. HMMS will provide the pasta, garlic bread, Parmesan cheese, croutons, drinks (tea, juice, milk), plastic utensils and paper goods. Ma Masion is also putting together goodie bags for the kids!

We’ll need some volunteers to help set-up and serve, cook the pasta and prepare the bread.

Dinner will be served at 6:00 pm, so we should get there no later than 5:00 pm do to our part. The caterers will be there a bit earlier to cook thier food.

Please comment below if you are interested in helping out. We are limited to 15 people total, including those from Ma Maison, so we can have about 10 or so club members.

Please also donate paper towels and aluminum pull tabs. RHM uses a lot of paper towels, and is always in need for more. And, they can turn in the pull tabs for cash. Bring these to the club meeting in the morning if you are unable to make it that evening.

November HMMS Meeting

November 5, 2011
10:30 AMto12:00 PM

On Saturday, November 5th we are meeting at Amazon Grill on Kirby Drive. We’ll be sitting in their Garden Room. They have breakfast (empanadas, omlettes and waffles) and lunch items. As always, the meeting starts at 10:30, but come early and meet and greet your fellow MINIacs.

5114 Kirby Drive
Houston, Texas 77098
713.522.5888

Remember, for new members joining October through December, their dues also pay for 2012.

Finally, on the evening of the 5th, we’re helping to put on a spaghetti dinner at Ronald McDonald House. More details are to follow, but Ma Maison Catering is donating the food! We are looking for volunteers to help serve the dinner, and also asking for donations of paper goods, like paper towels. RMH goes through paper towels pretty quick and always needs extras. We’ll meet at RMH at 5:00 pm. RMH is at 1907 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030.

HMMS Swag: Magnetic Logo

Check out the new HMMS magnetic logo on the HMMS Swag page! It is 11 inches in diameter (not mini), so no one will confuse you with belonging to some lame car club! We’ve got 20, and selling them for 10 bucks each, so they won’t last long!
